Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini can now heave a sigh of relief. According to reports in The Daily Mirror, La Liga giants Barcelona have chosen to distance themselves from all rumours linking them with Citizens forward Sergio Aguero indicating that they may not make a move for him in the winter.
Barca vice-president Josep Bartomeu was quoted telling reporters: “No, we have had no contact with him. I can say that the story is not true.”
The Argentine was expected to be one of the prime targets of the Catalans for the winter, with reports suggesting that Lionel Messi had even vouched for the player to be brought to the Nou Camp.
However, Pellegrini needs to be cautious and not be overly assured of the player remaining at the Etihad Stadium in the future. La Liga giants Real Madrid are still believed to be following the Argentine, who was also on their wishlist during his time at Atletico Madrid. With Los Blancos viewing the 25 year old as an easier target as compared to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, it may not come as a surprise if Real approach City for the player in January, testing the Citizens’ resolve with a substantial bid for his signature.
